How to Know When It's Time to Meet in Person

Online dating services are a great tool to find a partner, especially when shyness is involved. Some people just do not know how to walk up to the person they would like to have a date with. This whole step is taken out of the equation when using online dating services. Most relationships that are started on online dating sites generally are taken into the real word at some point or another. At this point in time, when a relationship from an online dating site is taken into the real world can depend on many factors. So just when is the right time to meet someone that was picked online in person?

As with so many things in life, the right time is different for every couple, but one thing can be said, the right time largely depends on the readiness of both people involved, as well as a good timing. For most online relationships, it is a good thing to get to know each other a little before going on a date. Generally, first dates are for getting to know each other, but in online dating, this takes away a little of the anxiety, when both persons already know whether they have things in common or not. Waiting is never a bad thing in dating, but waiting too long can ruin future endeavors with that person.

Just how long should one wait? Essentially, after the first contact online, online daters should e-mail or chat or use some other online medium to get to know each other. During those first conversations, it should get obvious what each partner is looking for and it should also get obvious as to when and how fast the partner desires to have a first date. Some people might right away ask for a date, but one should be aware of those people, these might be the ones looking for a one-night stand and not a real relationship. Both people need to agree on a speed, if they do not, the relationship will not work out.

Also, it is important to know that even though that first date might be a little frightening, it cannot be put off forever, then the other side will just move one before a relationship ever had a chance to be established. Caution is good, but too much caution can ruin the fun.

The right time to set a date for the first get together is when both know more then just the profile topics about each other, but still before nothing else is left to be exchanged. Little fun exists in dating when people already know everything about the other one. It takes away from the fun and the excitement of that first date.

Another reason it might be a good idea to meet in person is when topics in e-mails cross from the general family, friends, hobbies and interests into deeper and different interests. Once the discussion and emails go into sexual or just romantic, erotic topics it might be time to meet the person in the real world. After all, that is what one has signed up, when he or she first entered the online dating world.

Whatever the indicator might be, maybe even just one person asking the other directly for a date, it is important to make this next step to be able to find a partner and to be able to fulfill the wished of having lasting relationship outside of the internet. It might be scary to meet someone for the first time, but it is not a totally blind date, many of the things such as hobbies, interests and likes are generally already known through prior e-mails and conversations over the internet. The aspect of plain having fun should never be forgotten and that there is always someone else that one can meet through the online dating services is an old wisdom that holds a lot of truth.
